The story

Campaign finance data in Tennessee is public record. But have you ever tried to actually use it? The raw filings are buried, the format is rough, and unless you already know what you're looking for, good luck. We built OpenTN because that's not good enough.

We pull directly from the Tennessee Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance, crunch the raw filing data, and turn it into something you can search, score, and actually make sense of. The Community Funding Index breaks down how a candidate is funded — grassroots vs. PAC money, in-district vs. out-of-state — without telling you what to think about it.

This is Position5's first civic tech project. We're not partisan, we don't editorialize, and we don't have a horse in any race. We just think people should be able to see where the money goes.
